"My Parkinson’s story starts when I was 67 years old in September 2017. I will never forget that day my neurologist told me I had Parkinson’s he said that he didn’t want to tell me but after many tests and too many symptoms there was no denying the diagnosis. Needless to say I was in shock scared and totally uneducated about the disease. He sent me on my way home with prescriptions for drugs and advice to exercise and that was that! I was on my own to deal with the disease as best I could.
As fate would have it in October I met a friend at a party as I was leaving and I told her about having Parkinson’s. She immediately told me about a group called RSB that she volunteered for and gave me the card of the head coach. I didn’t waste any time calling and found myself in her class soon after.
Fast forward to going on 4 years later and here I am a RSB ju**ie. I can honestly say that without Rsb in my life I don’t think I would be the same person. Besides the fact that it has improved my strength, balance, attitude, and mental state it has been an incredible support system. Just being around other people who are experiencing the same issues as I am is knowing that you are not alone in this fight. As fighters we support each other and challenge ourselves to be the best we can be. I only wish that everyone who gets newly diagnosed could be informed of the RSB program. I am so grateful that early on in my diagnosis I was able to get into a class. Lucky for me I have one of the best coaches Gloria Landau who always gives 110% of herself to her fighters. We all love her and her incredible energy and passion that she puts into her classes. I am so thankful to have her and RSB in my new life fighting back against Parkinson’s. I am Rock Steady!!!"
