“My journey with fitness has always been interesting. I’ve never been the most athletic and if you know me personally, I’m quite clumsy. You could say I’ve been blessed with appearing small most of my life and I was also underweight until my mid to late 20s, but that was challenging in and of itself. I was always told I was “too skinny” (whatever that was supposed to mean) and to “eat more.” I didn’t like exercising and I had the fear of looking too built if I strength trained.
My journey with Imago started with my sister. She started training with Coach Huong before the inception of Imago and became friends, so I knew her personally before I knew her in a professional context. I watched my sister get healthier and fit looking, but since I thought I wasn’t going to change, I didn’t really hop on the fitness train with her. It wasn’t until my mid 20s where my body started to slow down from all of the unhealthy habits I picked up and I started to gain weight. I also attribute the start of my weight gain to my new relationship at the time, but happy weight is good weight right? For a while, my partner and I tried to support each other as much as we could, but we always had separate fitness goals and the way we approached eating was completely different. Then the pandemic happened which led me to being the heaviest I’ve ever been because of the lack of exercise and constant eating due to being home all the time. I eventually lost weight but it wasn’t due to healthy eating habits and a fitness routine because the weight shot back up. I recognized I needed something to change.
My sister asked me if I wanted to start a transformation program at Imago because I got engaged last year and I said “Sure, why not?” I didn’t realize it would be a turning point in my life. I learned a lot about myself through the process and I can now say I am pre-partner weight again. It wasn’t only that, I comprehended there are no “good” foods or “bad” foods, there’s just food. Foods are only “bad” for you if they make your tummy hurt. I learned I am not going to look ridiculous if I strength train and even though I still dread doing it, I understand it’s helped me so much in terms of my physical and mental capacity plus it has allowed me to get stronger for my other fitness endeavors which include aerial arts and dancing.”
