Every Labor Day, we remember the fights that built the modern workplace: the eight-hour day, the weekend, the right to organize. This year, we're writing the next chapter: to establish workers’ rights to shape how emerging technology, including artificial intelligence, gets deployed on the job.

Happy Labor Day weekend! As we celebrate with BBQs, parades, and time with loved ones, let’s remember the true meaning of this weekend.

Join us in the fight for worker power through the AFL-CIO People Powered program! We stand together with our affiliates to advocate for good jobs, technology that serves us, and the solidarity needed to protect the rights and freedoms of all workers.

As we kick off election season, we need champions who will fight for us, not for the billionaires and CEOs.

Let’s take action:
- Register to vote and encourage your friends and coworkers to do the same.
- Join a Labor Day bbq near you!
- Be part of our campaign kickoff on September 19th at 9am to elect labor champions.

Yesterday, we gathered at San Jose City Hall for a powerful rally where Jean Cohen, Executive Officer of the South Bay Labor Council, stated:

‘Workers and community members are facing the same fight... Today, South Bay labor and community stand together in one coalition, because we know the only way to win real power over these technologies is together.’

The launch of the People’s Technology Coalition is a crucial step in ensuring that AI and technology serve everyone, not just Big Tech.

The South Bay Labor Council attended both the Santa Clara and San Jose actions today, standing in solidarity with California Nurses Association for a fair contract. Nurses are facing critical issues like short staffing, wage theft, and the challenges posed by new AI technologies at Kaiser facilities. It’s time for us to unite and demand that Kaiser addresses these concerns and settles a fair contract for both nurses and patients!
