Roundnet Rules:
• Two teams of two players for 4 total are needed
• One team serves to the other to start the game
• Teams determine serving "sides" with teammates adjacent to one another and an opponent directly across the net from each player, making a square around the net. The serving team alternates spots after each consecutive point scored while serving.
• There are two typ
es of serve: "Gentleman's Serve" is a soft serve that bounces off the net to chest height of the opponent and should be used in all beginner games. Aces don't count in this style so just serve again. Competitive serves must be taken from at least 7 feet from the net and can be as hard as possible. The ball be no higher than the receiver's shoulders. Much like tennis, you are allowed two serves, although the receiver must play any legal serve.
• Each team has up to 3 hits to bounce the ball off the net
• If a team fails to bounce the ball off the net in three hits, the opposing team is awarded a point
• After the serve there are no limits to where a player can go to field a ball, creating a 360° playing field around the net. A player must make an effort in good faith to get out of the way of an opponent trying to hit the ball. Any dispute over interference results in a do-over
• The ball must hit the net cleanly. If it hits the rim around the net it is called a "rimmer" and the opposing team is awarded the point
• Similarly, the ball cannot hit the net or any part of the net more than once before being hit by a player. If the ball bounces twice on the net (or net and rim), the opposing team is awarded a point
• A ball that hits the net directly along the rim and changes directions suddenly is known as a "Pocket". Beginners should declare all pocket shots to be do-overs. Advanced players should play pockets except on serve, where special rules apply.
• Scoring is "rally style" meaning every play will result in a point for one team
• Games are played to 21, win by 2
