Growth.
Metro has 3 teams, one of those is the Metro Reserves. This group had 90% of the players leave the team for one reason or the other, many moving away surrounding the pandemic, others promoted to the Premier Division team. At the start of the season, with the expansion to NISA Nation and a third club, Metro Reserves came together with 11 men on the field for the first game at the last minute. We built the airplane as we flew it into 2022.
The team also was (un)fortunate enough to play in the first game of the season, a fantastic up and coming SF team that leads the top of the table in the first division. Not just leading, they have dominated the table, winning their first half dozen or so games, often 8-0 or so. It was truly the Mighty Ducks playing the hella good team in the first scene of the movie.
Metro reserves lost that first game of the season 11-0, conceding 10 goals in the first half.
But we didn’t and don’t quit.
If anything it was a win to get 11 on the field.
We lost the first half 10-0. We lost the second half 1-0.
The next week we tied.
Tied again. Again. And again.
We proceeded to improve our quality, our players, develop our talent, get better, build chemistry, and hold our own against the rest of the table. The next 6 games Metro Reserves didn’t concede a loss.
OKAY here’s the big story: this past Sunday Metro Reserves BEAT FC YOUNG BOYS 3-2.
The team refused to quit and always focus on the process and get better.
We are never beaten. We are always growing.
We are immensely proud of this achievement, and it is a true testament to the players who STICK WITH IT AND PROGRESS AND WORK THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES
1 step further 1 minute better 1 game at a time, season at a time, level at a time. All the way to the MLS. And from top to bottom: from our 1st divison SFSFL team to our team.
Results matter. But not as much as all of this.
Big shout at for the a goal and hard work up top.
