Lynn Huang has been practicing GYROTONIC® for over two decades. Inspired by the way it changed her body and her dancing, she devoted herself to assisting individuals—from grandmothers to deskbound professionals to professional dancers, in their journey to surmount physical limitations and to develop greater strength, flexibility and fre
edom through the GYROTONIC® Expansion System. Certified in GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® in 2010, she has studied with GYROTONIC® Master Trainers Debra Rose, Nora Heiber, and Nathan Martin. A lifelong learner, she has continued her trainings in GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Level 2, all the specialized equipment, as well as the Breathing Course, and Pelvic Girdle Course. Trained in modern dance, ballet, and Chinese dance, she has performed nationwide with various choreographers in New York City and in the Bay Area, and has been dancing with Lenora Lee Dance since 2013. She was most recently named a 2023 AIR Fellowship grantee through Asian Improv aRts. She was awarded a Fulbright to study ethnic minority dance in Beijing, China and received her BA in English from Barnard College. She is honored to be part of the SFG studio as well as the SFG teaching team for the LINES Ballet Training Program and the LINES BFA Program at Dominican University. GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC® make up the GYROTONIC® expansion system, which was created by Juliu Horvath over three decades ago. This unique system draws from principles from dance, yoga, swimming, and tai chi to usher the body into moving the way it was designed to move. Horvath, a professional ballet dancer, developed GYROKINESIS® (originally called yoga for dancers) to heal himself from his own career ending injury. This system focuses on spinal health and mobility, and how everything -our brain, organs, lymph, limbs connects into the spine, taking a more holistic approach to the concept of moving from your core. He later designed equipment to enhance his students’ understanding of the concepts within GYROKINESIS®; the work that came out of these specialized pieces of equipment became GYROTONIC®. GYROKINESIS® is done on a stool and a mat and can be adapted to meet the needs of each person. This mind body modality seamlessly integrates breath, movement, and flow to stimulate the nervous system, the physical body, and the energetic body. This system meets you wherever you are in your movement journey; it can be deeply restorative, gently re-introducing movement back into the body after surgery or trauma, and it can also be intensely strengthening and tailored to the unique needs of elite athletes and dancers. Starting with four basic spinal motions that comprise all the ways our spines are designed to move. It seeks to bring the body into balance and to cultivate proprioception, self-awareness, and intentionality within the body, which in turn facilitates healthy movement patterns and injury prevention. Ultimately, it strives to create space where there is compression, to allow for the flow of breath and energy to circulate through the body and thus promote healing, circulation, detoxification, freedom from pain, and freedom to move.
