Belated announcement: Playland has a new steward/park manager! Introducing Karen Hendricksen, a local resident, ceramic artist, floral designer, and mom. She’s passionate about building community and literacy. Karen enjoys interacting with diverse communities and ages. As a parent, she knows how important it is to have a safe and engaging space to be with children and meet other parents.
You may have seen Karen around already (in a bright orange jacket, or holding a big red mushroom), not only working hard at keeping Playland green, clean, and safe, but also working and volunteering with Sunset Youth Services, the Children’s Book Project, and Sunset Mercantile ().
Together with the Sunset Youth Services family, Karen will make sure Playland continues to thrive, as we near the end of its life before making way for educator housing in 2022. A special shout-out to Mutasem (Mo) Dajani, Dawn Stueckle, and the youth staff who have been caring for this space since its opening, back in 2016. We couldn’t do this without you!
Last but not least, a special thank you to Frances England () and John Funke () who served as stewards of this space for 2 years before Karen, and worked tirelessly to maintain the Playland spirit!
