We hope that this email finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy during these difficult times. As you know, we have been actively monitoring and addressing COVID-19 issues for several weeks, and we made the early decision last Tuesday to postpone the season for several weeks. Since then, much has changed.

Many of you probably saw the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association (NCJLA's) email earlier today, but for those of you who did not, the NCJLA announced closure of games and practices until April 12th. We will of course postpone any Riptide activities until that date. The NCJLA is presently considering options for what may be left of the end of the season, and we will work with the NCJLA to resume lacrosse if and when it is clear that such activities are appropriate. We will also honor a similar delay for all lacrosse activities for those teams participating in the Marin League (U10) and our internal boys and girls U8 programs.

In the interim, be safe and healthy, and do what you can to help protect our community. As the NCJLA's email emphasized today, this is a great opportunity for us all to engage in community and teamwork. As always, please reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

TEAM USA COMING TO CALIFORNIA FOR EARLY SPRING ACTION


Kick off the lacrosse season with the U.S. National Women’s Senior and U19 teams at Spring Premiere on Jan. 25 - 27 at Stanford University!

Joining the two U.S. teams will be a pair of international teams (England and Japan) and two collegiate teams (Fresno State and Stanford).

In addition to the games, the U.S. National Team players and coaches will hold a 90-minute clinic on Jan. 26 for players aged 8 to 18. Clinic registration includes a weekend ticket and a U.S. National Team shirt.

Hello Riptide families, the NCJLA and the Riptide are working to grow the sport of Lacrosse and we need your help. OFFICALS ARE NEEDED.

Each club in the NCJLA is required to submit a new junior and adult official for each boys and girls team that they field that season.

The next opportunity to become an official is to register for the training sessions by Dec 10th.

The NorCal Women’s Lacrosse Officials, a new non-profit corporation, was established this past summer.  The NCWLO replaces the NorCal Chapter of US Lacrosse Umpire Committee and as such will conduct all of the same activities, e.g., training, observations, mentoring, assigning.

Congratulations to our U14 Black team who defeated the Diablo Scorpions today 7-6 in a hard fought game that went down to the wire. A fantastic finish to a perferct 17-0 season, and a fitting end to the Riptide careers of some outstanding 8th graders who will be moving on to high school. We could not be prouder of this group of girls for bringing home the first ever "A" division championship for the Riptide.

There are 50+ Clubs in the NCJLA ranging from Sacramento to Monterey and 16 teams in the top girls u14 division - but this year the San Franscisco Riptide is #1!

RIPTIDE GIRLS U14 UPDATE:
Our u14 Black team continued their run with a semi-final over the West Valley Redhawks last Saturday. They move on to face the #2 seeded Diablo Scorpions in the finals this weekend - Diablo has won the championship the past 2 years in a row, so it should be a battle.

Game time is 9am Sunday at the Patelco Sports Complex in Pleasanton.

Come out and cheer on the Riptide and if you just can't get enough of youth lacrosse, the A-division championships for all other girls' and boys' age groups will be played at the same venue later that day.

We firmly believe playing mulitple sports will make you a better lacrosse player. There are lots of obvious benefits, but perhaps not so obvious is the reduction in injury risk that happens when you play multiple sports. Here is some interesting research from Benioff Children's Hospital:

A study by UCSF Benioff's Children’s Hospitals sports medicine researchers finds that among elite NBA athletes, those who participated in multiple sports in high school had fewer injuries and longer careers, on average, than players who played only basketball in their adolescence.
