Penny Sablove Sensei, chief instructor of our dojo Heart of San Francisco Aikido, offered a demonstration for her 6th dan promotion during a daylong seminar in Santa Cruz. Many of us from her dojo were there to support her and to celebrate this milestone for her and for our dojo. Linda Holiday Sensei, 7th dan senior instructor and founder of Aikido of Santa Cruz, has been Penny Sensei’s primary teacher for 43 of her 45 years of practice.

Yes!

We have great news - Governor Newsom just signed AB 1955 into law! With his signature, California becomes the first state in the nation to enact legislation that explicitly protects LGBTQ+ students from dangerous forced outing school policies that have gained prominence in growing national attacks on LGBTQ+ civil rights.

This major win would not be possible without the fierce community advocacy behind the SAFETY Act. On behalf of Equality California, the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus, and all of our incredible partners, we want to take a moment to thank everyone for all the support, boldness, and unwavering tenacity that helped get this landmark piece of legislation across the finish line.
