Mammoth bike park UPDATE. The snow is finally breaking its grip!...share aeay. :)
"Trail crew made a massive effort this past week and were able to get a bunch of good terrain open for last weekend. Looks like we’re going to have a similar amount of acreage opening up this coming Friday so lot’s to talk about in the Mammoth Bike Park.
Trails that opened Saturday 7/29
Accessed from McCoy via G1:
(Being able to lap these trails using the gondola is huge for our core DH guests. They don’t want to pedal, and would rather not have to take a shuttle followed by a gondola ride.)
- Velocity – Expert downhill trail, a Mammoth classic.
- Chain Smoke – Pro Line downhill trail that has some of the rowdier features and rock gardens in the park. In my opinion this is one of the most unique trails we have and while it’s not new, it’s definitely worth talking about.
- Twilight Zone – Expert flow/jump trail which starts with the “Concrete Jungle”, a ¼ mile of berms and jumps lined with concrete pavers and ends with the lower Twilight Zone jump line. Super fun trail that ends at the bottom of Chair 2. This past weekend we were running a shuttle back up to Main Lodge. Easy transportation but not the sexiest way of doing things.
- Midtown – Quickly becoming a Mammoth “must ride” this Intermediate trail winds its way down from McCoy offering 22 berms, the Knee Deep section and a flowy traverse across Broadway(the ski run) and the race runs. This was one of the most asked about runs from our guests this season and a huge addition to our trail progression from the Discovery Zone to Off the Top.
Accessed from McCoy via “The Burma Road” (a long fire road going from McCoy to the top of Chair 16): (The Burma Road is far from ideal requiring a long pedal/push of your bike to access the top of the below trails, both of which start at the top of Chair 16 and end at Canyon Lodge. Uphill access is gained by riding down Canyon Blvd. and catching the shuttle back up to Main Lodge. Upwards of a 2-hour lap and the reason why running Chair 16 is important.)
- Bullet – Pro Line downhill trail used for the Kamikaze Bike Games Pro GRT race and the course the National DH Championships used the past 2 seasons.
- Follow Me – Expert downhill trail. A favorite amongst the amateur DH and Enduro crowd.
Accessed from G2:
- All of Off the Top – Long Intermediate trail which differentiates Mammoth’s Bike Park from others. It has amazing views and really provides a big-mountain feel that you won’t find in too many other bike parks (Whistler requires a reservation and charges an additional fee to access the top of their mountain.) Until yesterday we were having to divert riders onto Kamikaze (advanced trail) which they would ride down to G1/Adventure Center. Now they can ride down to the bottom of the trail and access Beach Cruiser and Mountain View, both fun intermediate trails that opened yesterday.
Plans for Friday – Sunday August 4-6
We will be running Chairs 2 and 16 from 10AM until 4PM. This is huge for our core guests and with enough time to get the word out we should see a real spike in ridership next weekend.
Trail openings
- Brake Through – Long intermediate trail offering access to a number of different trails and a blast in its own right. One of my favorites.
- Flow – Expert downhill trail with some pretty cool features littered throughout.
- Pipeline – Expert jump/flow trail which is one of our most popular.
Both of the above trails have a bunch of wood/metal features on them, all of which were crushed by last year’s snowfall and are having to be rebuilt. We may have to create a ride-around or two if the metal framing is not finished in time.
- 7 Bridges – Incredibly unique intermediate trail that bobs and weaves above and through Lower Dry Creek.
With the above additions we will have 33 trails open providing just over 50 miles of riding."
