If you don't hold pads correctly you can ruin your partner's technique. That's why when I worked in big gyms I wouldn't let anyone do pads in my classes because I knew it's making them worse. You have to protect your technique. Your skills are either getting better or worse, never staying the same. If your partner holds with bad angles, you are training to get better at bad angles and probably distorting techniques to get there. You need a minimum standard of pad holding to get better from it.
