Long overdue post but I just wanted to acknowledge that on Feb 7th, after 37 days in the NICU, my Barrett Arthur came home! 🥳
When we first learned I was pregnant I had prayed and asked that my baby would reveal the name it wanted to me and it would be a name that would remind them of who they came to Earth to be. At the time, I was reading through my medicine cards and one that came up often was the Bear card. It’s medicine is Introspection and it says to become like Bear and enter the safety of the womb-cave (for hibernation), we must attune ourselves to the energies of the Eternal Mother, and receive nourishment from the placenta of the Great Void. The place where all solutions and answers live in harmony with the questions that fill our realities. This card felt so appropriate for the season that I was in… pregnant with all possibilities on the other side. I then heard the name Barrett and looked up it’s meaning… in old German it means “mighty as the Bear”. Sean and I both loved the name Arthur and upon looking at its meaning… we discovered it’s Celtic origin means “Bear”. Before we knew we were having a boy or twins… we knew this babies name would be Barrett Arthur but affectionately be known as Bear 🧸

Looking back at photos reminds me of how far Bear has come since he and Bodhi’s birth day. Though being born 8 weeks early brings many challenges, he has faced them all strong and “mighty as a Bear”. It’s been so wonderful having him home and getting to know his big personality. He does not really cry but when he is hungry, he lets out more of a roar 🐻😄 I’d say we named him appropriately. I look forward to the day when I can share this coming home post for Bodhi and share the story of his name as well ❤️

I finally got to hold my babies together! 😍
Yesterday Bodhi was moved into the lower care NICU unit with his twin brother Bear and this reunion finally happened!

This is how we were for the last 7 months… the three of us together. Bear on my right side, Bodhi on my left. Then we were suddenly separated. This was the first day since I gave birth that I’ve felt totally whole. I needed this moment with my boys to be all together again. They needed this moment (check out their sweet little hand hold 🥲).

They both have some milestones to go before coming home. We are now focused on growing, regulating body temperature, and learning how to feed. We introduced Bear to breastfeeding this week and are hoping to increase Bodhi’s feeds and and get him to that point soon too! Bear already seems pretty hyped on it and Bodhi is showing cuing signs of being ready to learn- very exciting for Mama 🥰🎉 🍼

Getting them back together felt like such a huge step towards them coming home. I’ll be doing this as much as I can daily in the NICU until I can bring them home and hold them together forever 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦❤️

We are celebrating 10 days old and the boys cruising through the NICU 🎉

I’m so very grateful to report that Bodhi has been moved back to our original NICU with his brother! His team of cardiologists are following his progress but they felt like he was doing so well and wouldn’t need intervention anytime soon so the babies are back under the same roof - which is much nicer for Mom and Dad. Bear has now been moved to a different unit of the NICU for babies who need less intensive care! They are both totally off of breathing support and we are hoping to start working on normal feeds very soon.

The first week for us was quite scary and TOUGH… honestly I was an emotional wreck- being separated from them from birth, Bodhi going into surgery then being moved for his heart issue, and just seeing their little bodies hooked up to machines. I was pretty much crying around the clock. But this week we have had positive progress each day and I’m feeling much more stable. It also helps that I’ve been able to hold each of them the last few days! Skin to skin time is medicine for all our souls. It’s always very hard to leave them each day but when I cry now, it’s mostly happy tears after staring at their sweet little faces. Our next milestone will be when we can hold them both together and reunite brothers! I’m totally in awe of both of their strength and resilience and so grateful to my husband for being a rock for me to lean on through all of this❤️

At 32 weeks 1 day gestation the Bieschke Twins decided that, though it was early, it was time to come out and meet Mommy & Daddy ✨ Introducing…

Barrett Arthur (Bear) 3lbs 4oz
Bodhi Sage 2lbs 9oz

The first 72 hours of life have been a whirlwind for Bear and Bodhi. Straight into the NICU from birth for life saving support. Our little Bodhi had to have emergency surgery on Day 2 of life but he is recovering well and back next to his brother in the NICU. Day 3 Mommy & Daddy finally got to hold their boys and this is the first family photo of the four of us together!

They have a ways to go and we will be here with their angel doctors and nursing staff helping us get them big and strong enough to go home. They have both shown so much fight and resilience and we are incredibly proud and so so so in love with them! We have received so many messages of love and prayers and it means so much to us to have that support during this time. Each moment seems to be filled with victories and also challenges. The emotional roller coaster is real! Keep the prayers coming family, they are working ❤️🙏🏼

Merry Christmas from our family of (soon to be) 4 to yours! 🎅🏼🤶🏼👶🏼👶🏼 These pictures are from our first Christmas together… last year in Maryland with Sean’s family. We never guessed that this year would be spent in the hospital with twins on the way! What a beautiful year it has been. Though being here on Christmas is not ideal, we are celebrating 31 weeks of the babies growing in my belly and are getting so excited to welcome them Earth side in just a few short weeks! Our rare Mo/Di twins need to be born by 34 weeks so we are just praying they stay in and grow till then ❤️🙏🏼 We have so much to be thankful for. Wishing you all a beautiful holiday season with the people you love the most! 🎄🎁

One of the few pictures I have with my baby bump! 🤰🏼Since about 23 weeks, I have basically been on bedrest and now I’ve been inpatient at the hospital on bedrest for 3 weeks. Bedrest means dirty hair, no makeup, and 24/7 pajamas sooo not many cute baby bump pictures happening these days 😅 But that’s ok, I just plan to take lots of baby pictures once my twins are here! 😍

I’ll be 29 weeks along tomorrow and every day they stay in and continue to grow is a blessing. If you saw my stories yesterday then you may have read that at 20 weeks, my Twin B was diagnosed with selective intrauterine growth restriction (SIUGR) and it’s been a bumpier road than expected. He’s 30% smaller than his brother but he is growing! My being on bedrest is helping direct blood flow to the babies and slow down pre-term labor. We are hoping I make it to 32-34 weeks! I’ll most likely be here in the hospital through delivery but as long as it helps my boys to arrive here safe and healthy… I’m happy to be here! A lot of people have asked if we were doing IVF and the answer is no… we were blessed in that we just intentionally tried once and…. 💥Twins! (We had both just finished a cleanse and I think that helped 🌱) Also since our twins are identical, it was not genetic… they are “spontaneous” Mo/Di twins (share a placenta but have two separate amniotic sacs) 🧬🧬

People say your children are your biggest teachers. Mine haven’t even arrived and are already teaching me so much. This pregnancy is forcing me to truly release, let go and allow what is, to be. See, I had plans for a completely natural home birth. We had hired our midwife team and had intentions on being as free from medical intervention as possible. Then we went to our first ultrasound and found out we were having identical twins and everything quickly changed. Our boys share a placenta and it seemed that Baby B wasn’t getting as much of it as Baby A and was behind on the growth curve- about 2 weeks. This can indicate many different issues. The google searches began and the worry started to set in as we found our team of maternal fetal medicine specialists. We started with our weekly appointments and every week we went in holding our breath & praying that Baby B showed signs of improvement and Baby A stayed stable. And yes…Baby B was still behind but he was growing! Then last week -at 25 weeks & 4 days- my body was showing signs for pre-term labor at our appointment. My docs thought it best to check me into the hospital so we can monitor the babies and I daily. If an emergency happens then we are here and we have the best shot of getting the fast treatment we need. I never pictured that I would be in the hospital on bedrest for my first pregnancy. I hadn’t pictured steroid shots, a magnesium drip, or learning what NICU standard of care is for preemies. I had imagined working out through my entire pregnancy, taking cute maternity photos, and decorating an adorable nursery. But being here, and feeling my babies kick and somersault in my belly… I’m forced to release the picture of what I thought it would be and wake up grateful each day that they are still growing inside me, together & protected by my womb. I’m grateful for sweet nurses and calming doctors who help assure me my boys will make it. I’m grateful that both of these babies chose me to be their Mama and to be able to facilitate whatever birth story we all need to have. I’m grateful for the lesson in releasing attachments and to be already learning from my babies every step of the way.

Happy Birthday Sean! 😍 Last November 8th, we spent your first birthday together, just you and me, at our favorite place . Who would’ve thought then that only a year later, on your birthday… we would be married, with identical twin boys on the way, and celebrating you, again at the Oasis, but surrounded by so many people who we now call family. Wow, what a trip this year has been🤯🚀😄

Since the day we met, we’ve said we time travel together. And since that fateful day… you have taken my world and turned it right side up. I can’t imagine doing life and raising children with anyone but you. You can take an ordinary day and make it full of magic 🪄 ✨ Thank you for being my true north, my guiding star, and my calming presence. I can’t wait to watch you become a father to our boys… I know you’ll teach them how to drum, sing, dance, paint, and live out loud in total authenticity of who they are. We ALL love you beyond the moon and the stars🌙💫 Happy Birthday Baby 💃🏼❤️🕺🏼

Out of ALL the surprises that 2021 has brought me… the biggest one by far is that we are having TWINS! 👶🏼👶🏼 They call these “spontaneous” identical twins and and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I think the only thing better than one baby… is TWO! 🥰
