Our athletes learn to live and compete for special reasons much bigger than themselves individually.

Proteus Athlete and Coach, .huntley, chose #16 for his jersey number in this his first season of college baseball.

This is to honor another long-time Proteus Athlete and Dad who we lost tragically last year, Stephen and Steve Pirolli.

Jackson and Stephen both played in the same travel ball club .

We are excited to be the new HQ for Spellman Performance in San Diego!

Les Spellman and his Spellman Performance team have become the country's top coaches and developers of sport speed in the US.

Their roster of current and former clients is a Who's Who of top professional athletes in every major sport.

More importantly, they have a passion and gift for developing the next generation.

This was on full display over the Christmas break, as we combined forces to offer an intensive 5-day Speed Camp with over 40 athletes.

Les first began coaching with us (back in the Velocity Sports Performance days) upon moving to San Diego nearly a decade ago.

He's since found his niche and unrivaled expertise developing and enhancing sport speed, that ultimate "X-factor" that translates into on-field performance.

He has built a first-class team of coaches, analysts and scientists to implement his system, and now offers a digital testing and training platform for athletes and coaches worldwide through the Universal Speed Rating.

Everything they do will be available to our athletes here at Proteus, starting this Wednesday, January 12th!

Two 75-minute groups are now being offered on Wednesdays and Fridays, as follows:

Wednesdays
5pm to 6:15pm
6:30pm to 7:45pm

Friday
3:30pm to 4:45pm
5pm to 6:15pm

Over the Christmas break on December 20-23, we hosted our first Rugby Skills Camp on our new practice field.

Led by one of the top skills coaches in the country, Charlie Purdon took nearly 50 athletes through a solid week of training progressions in the essentials of rugby skills: catch/pass, footwork & evasion, breakdown zone, tackling and kicking.

Combining technical drills with creative, constraint-based game play is a powerful accelerator of skill development, and on full display that week.

We were thrilled to have an Olympian and former Team USA Captain, Ben Pinkleman leading the session on Tuesday of camp week to dive deep into how to master the breakdown zone and improve contact efficiency.

"Proteus Rugby" is fast becoming the ultimate player development experience in San Diego, inside a professional Academy-level facility.

Many of San Diego's top rugby players train here each week, supplementing their team practices and matches with intentional skill development, rugby-specific strength & conditioning, nutrition coaching and mindset preparation.

Rugby Skills with Coach Charlie are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 6:45pm (U14 and older).

Strength & Conditioning sessions for U10 through U23 are offered Monday through Friday, with full recovery amenities inside at Fit Athletic (bike, sauna, pool, etc.).

While most people have already failed at their New Year's fitness resolutions by now, this young man is celebrating the accomplishment of his.

The difference being, he made his resolution last May to accomplish before the New Year.

He never wavered from his resolution, and actually achieved his New Year's goals before Thanksgiving (and then proceeded to keep it going through the holidays)!

Curtiss weighed in with us at 363lbs on May 24th, and weighed out last week on December 31st at 244lbs.

That's 120lbs in six months; an average of 20lbs per month.

We have an "X-factor" for transformations like this, and the process is really quite simple. Here's one key piece that may shock you...we completely avoid "cardio".

It always amazes us how many people crash and burn when it comes to weight loss and dramatically improving their health, physique and energy levels.

Needless to say, we're extremely proud of this young man.

He had a vision, we worked together on a game plan to achieve it and he stuck with the plan even when it was uncomfortable. He's much stronger, way fitter and tough as nails.

A warrior.
