Did you know that the Gemstone Gem Bears have names? The girl bear wearing her signature bow is named Fabi Bear, and the boy bear is named Sami Bear!
Today is Gemstone’s 7 year anniversary, and to celebrate I thought I would post some Gemstone history. The bears are named after my grandparents, Fabiola & Samuel Hernandez. I’ve included some pics of me with them as a child, and pictures of them in their younger years.
Even though they passed away before Gemstone opened, they are a big part of its origin. They significantly influenced my work ethic, and always taught me that I could achieve anything and to dream big. Opening a business was scary, and hard. They instilled in me that I had what it takes to do it. Fabiola worked in a clothing factory and was a gifted seamstress. Samuel worked on the California railroad, and built me a balance beam by hand that helped me hone my love for gymnastics as a young girl. They are my grandparents, and I miss them every day. I wanted a reminder of them in the gym, and to have them be a part of it. So, Sami & Fabi bear were born.
Now you know a piece of Gemstone’s story. I am so grateful to our past and current coaches, parents, and gymnasts for being a part of our story too. Thank you for a wonderful 7 years, and I look forward to many more!
PS-something BIG is coming to Gemstone... I can’t wait to tell you more soon!
