Often times I will venture out to different departments within my company to talk to people and learn a little about them. Recently I had a conversation with someone about leadership & motivation and as we were talking about personal stories, podcasts, quotes, and our aspirations, he shared with me something AWESOME!

He told me that he gave his 13 year old son an assignment that happens to be due New Year’s Eve tonight! The assignment was to write an essay entailing the following:

- How do you apply to college and when should you be applying
- Why is it important to go to college
- What is a grant and how does one apply for a grant and what are the requirements
- What should you be doing to prepare for college now

The whole premise behind this assignment was to inform his child now so that he will know what to do well before he needs to worry about it. As he was telling me this, he explained that his childhood was not the best and he had to figure everything out the hard way. He encountered many challenges and obstacles to get where he is today so his goal is to provide his children with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful future. The point is this; many people are not as privileged as others so if you ever have an opportunity to help guide or teach your family, friends, co-workers, or even strangers then do so. In the end we are all after the same thing…happiness. So since we all share this common goal, let’s get there together.
