Josh's Combined Self Defense is a very direct, and aggressive street based martial skills/discipline which emphasizes close quarter tactics and the use of situational awereness (being aware of your surroundings and using it to your advantage). Deception, speed, a person's anatomical structure and weakness, as well as psychology are my trademarks. Contrary to many martial arts schools and dojos out
there, in this school, students do not do drills that are of little use other than to eat up class time and make you pay more just to have you stay longer in the school in the hopes of learning more soon. Everything taught here has a direct purpose that will be explained at the time of teaching. Class 1 (Minimum age: 6 years old):
In Josh's Combined Self-Defense, Kids/Youth are instilled with self-confidence, self-control, responsibility, perseverance, and respect. They are also taught and conditioned to be comfortable defending themselves under stressful circumstances. Initially, students will be taught the fundamentals of Kajukenbo. These fundamentals include blocks, strikes, stances, tumbling, and martial arts etiquette. As they progress, they will learn self-defense techniques and tactics, forms (which hold our basics and stanceworks), and basic defensive weapon use. In Josh's Combined Self-Defense, one thing is stressed constantly: No matter what, always be safe. Class 2 (Minimum age: 13)
In the adults class, the pace of learning is accelerated. A more proactive (offensive) and aggressive approach to self-defense is taken. After learning the fundamentals of Kajukenbo, students not only learn self-defense against armed and unarmed assailants, as well as forms, but also close quarter weapons and tactics. This includes situational awareness, human psychology, and using your environment to your advantage. Due to the nature of this class, perspective students must be interviewed before initial enrollment. Both classes are a "learn and earn" curriculum. Progression speed in this system depends on the student.
