I’ve always been crunchy- curious. Teetering on the edge of being a treehugger. Organizing the recycling, as a kid, in my parents’ house, looking into ways to save water and energy, trying to reduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose, repair, regift, etc.
Now with our water usage in check here in California (55 gallons per day per person at home) I’m happy to share a water saving strategy with you.
This is a picture of my dish soap mixed with water in a spray bottle. It’s great if you’re just doing a few dishes. You won’t need as much water to rinse. I fill about 1/5- 1/4 of the bottle full with soap with then fill to the top with water.
With this I’ve cut out turning the water on for the washing and only need it for the rinsing.
One other strategy that has save a lot of water is turning it off if not rinsing something in that moment. For example, I don’t let the water run when I put the dishes in the dishwasher. Yes, even that 5 second reach down to put the plate in the dishwasher rack- the water is off.
How is this part of yoga and personal training??? It’s awareness. It’s compassion. It’s building new healthy habits that don’t just benefit the individual but the society and the planet.
What is you best strategy on using less water?
Peace,
Rebecca
