1 Degree of Separation

1 Degree of Separation If you don’t struggle with depression, you know someone who does—one conversation can save a life.

1 Degree of Separation is a comedy show aiming to end the stigma of mental illness. Depression has one degree of separation--if you don't suffer then someone you know does. Our mission is to bring dialogue, awareness, and acceptance to depression through laughter and vulnerability. At a 1 Degree show, our hilarious comedians talk about depression in an entertaining and enlightening way, as they share stories of hope, happiness, and triumph. This show is an open and honest and engaging conversation about depression. We are working to end the stigma of mental illness with humor and comedy. There will be laughter and tears, but you'll walk away with a greater understanding of mental illness.

MONDAY — QUESTION 3: A DEEPER DIVE INTO THE 5

What do others do that make your depression better?

I love this question because it reminds us that we need each other.

There are things people can do that genuinely help when we’re struggling—but what helps me may be completely different from what helps you.

Maybe it’s sitting quietly with you.
Making you laugh.
Getting you out of the house.
Checking in.
Bringing you food.
Or simply reminding you that you’re not alone.

But here’s the important part:

Do you know what helps YOU?

Because the people who love us can’t know unless we tell them. ❤️

One conversation can save a life.

Su***de Prevention Week may be coming to an end, but the conversation can’t end here.

Keep checking on your people. Keep having the hard conversations. Keep reminding the Warriors in your life that asking for help is strength, and that they never have to fight alone.

And to every Warrior still fighting: stay.

Your story isn’t over yet.

What a great day. ❤️

Two incredible training sessions with such meaningful responses.

“In my 18 years of service, this was the best su***de prevention training I’ve attended.”

And talks of having us return are already in the works!

Thank you to the 174th Wing, Air National Guard, for having us, trusting us, and recognizing the importance of real conversations around depression and su***de prevention.

You get it. And we’re incredibly grateful to be part of it. 🇺🇸❤️

Two incredible training sessions. ❤️

It may have been smaller groups today, but we’ve learned that sometimes the smaller groups become the most intimate training sessions.

There’s more room for conversation, more connection, and more opportunity for people to open up and really engage.

It’s never about how many people are in the room. It’s about what happens in the room. ❤️

Thank you to the Navy for having us and a group hug to our team that showed up, poured out and changed lives! Well done.

WEDNESDAY — QUESTION 2: A DEEPER DIVE

This week we’ve been talking about the value of getting things off your chest.

But opening up isn’t always easy—especially when you’re not sure what you need from the person listening.

Sometimes I need advice.
Sometimes I need encouragement.
Sometimes I need help figuring something out.

And sometimes… I just need to say it out loud.

That’s part of going deeper with Question 2:

What do you need when you talk about what’s going on?

Do you want someone to listen?
Ask questions?
Sit with you?
Help you problem-solve?
Make you laugh?

And here’s another one to think about:

When someone opens up to YOU, do you listen to understand—or immediately start trying to fix it?

There isn’t one right answer.

The goal is to understand ourselves better—and learn how to have safer, more intentional conversations with the people we care about.

One conversation can save a life. ❤️
