During an online interview, Pacquiao was asked what he would do to defeat Crawford using a strategy that no opponent has successfully implemented.
The eight-division world champion offered a simple but aggressive blueprint: counter Crawford’s speed and heavy shots, stay constantly on the move and overwhelm him with punches.
“I just counter the speed and hard punches, and you know, strong punches, and move, moving around like a side by side and throwing a lot of punches.”
Pacquiao’s comments highlight one of the fundamental challenges of fighting Crawford: allowing the three-division world champion to dictate the pace can give him opportunities to read an opponent, make adjustments and exploit openings.
Rather than standing directly in front of Crawford, Pacquiao suggested using lateral movement and constant activity to disrupt his rhythm.
The strategy also reflects Pacquiao’s own approach during his prime. The Filipino icon built his career around explosive footwork, unconventional angles, rapid combinations and the ability to attack while moving out of danger.
Against a fighter as versatile as Crawford, Pacquiao believes that kind of high-volume, unpredictable approach could be crucial.
Crawford has established himself as one of boxing’s most complete fighters, combining elite timing, accuracy, counterpunching and power with the ability to switch between orthodox and southpaw stances.
Pacquiao’s answer, however, suggests that the best way to challenge those strengths may be to deny Crawford the time and distance needed to fully exploit them.
Move, counter and let the punches fly.
That, according to Pacquiao, could be the blueprint for finally solving the Crawford puzzle.
