You must assume nothing and test everything if you want to have real ownership of your putting. There’s a lot of variables, and isolating them from one another is paramount to improving them.

Green reading is so tied to technique to so many players, but it’s not the case. They are two completely different skills from each other, and almost nobody trains just green reading. In my opinion, it’s the single most undertrained skill in golf.

In my opinion, green reading is the single most under practiced skill in putting, and it’s the culprit for so many players struggling. Even short misses, that usually get blamed on poor mechanics, are still green reading issues for many players.

You need a system to get it right often enough for it to matter - guessing is just too hard over a long period of time.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you will likely never intuitively play enough break. You need a system in order to consistently get them high enough.

Amateurs in general don’t practice putting effectively, but almost none of that practice is dedicated to green reading. It’s the least practiced skill in the sport, and it’s a big reason why nobody putts as well as they want.
