Interesting read on Electro AND Jamskating....
The fact that the moniker "electro" is getting "repurposed/rebranded" by a genre that clearly isn't what electro has been since the 80's is a frustrating situation that creates REAL barriers to mutual understanding.
We had the same problem in Michigan in when everyone started calling every genre of electronic music "Techno", which is a BIG no-no in Detroit....
This is exactly why communities of ALL types correcting these things early and sternly, CORRECTS it early, despite the fact that people call it "gatekeeping", or just plain "being a big meanie".
We had the same thing in skating.
Regional Colloquialisms exist and vary in reference to what encompasses jamskating and shuffling, and always have. In the 2000s, we got some clarity in the matter thanks to sanctioning bodies making clear cut distinctions in both terminology and application through national competitions, as well as an abundance of smaller local and regional teams with increased "outreach and education" efforts.
