From the Opening Ceremonies in Buda to the intense finale in San Marcos, this was a World Series week these ladies will never forget.
After finishing 1st in the Liberty Pool with a 3-0 record, the ladies won their first two bracket games before losing the Winners Bracket Final and headed to Championship Saturday in the Losers Bracket Final. But the Championship run had to wait an extra day after a thunderstorm flooded the fields at the Gary Softball Complex.
Despite this, the Lady Sharks locked in to claim the Loser’s Bracket Final and set up a rematch with Manor Freedom who had not lost a 12u game the entire Spring season… until today. This Lady Sharks victory set up a back-and-forth winner-take-all finale that featured clutch hits, great defensive plays, and outstanding pitching from both teams. After the Lady Sharks tied the game with 2 outs in the top of the 5th inning as time expired, Freedom scored the winning run in the bottom half.
We finished as Pony South Zone World Series Finalists to cap off our 1st year as a 12u team. 🥈
This amazing team of young ladies fought hard in every game and received compliments from every team who shared the field with them about their hitting, defense, sportsmanship… and uniforms!
This week together made us all an even stronger Sharks Family. And while we did not win the championship, these ladies did accomplish one very important goal:
Prove Them Wrong
After all the dust settled from the pictures and tears, our coach asked the team who wanted to get back to the World Series next year for another shot.
Everyone raised their hands.
