🍂💥 EAST TEXAS BROUGHT THE ACTION TO FRANKSTON! 💥🍂

What a fantastic day at the Texas SCTP East Texas “Changing of the Leaves” Shoot at 5H Shooting Sports in Frankston, Texas, hosted by the Grace Cougars Sh***un Team!

49 Texas SCTP athletes hit the course for a full day of competition featuring Sporting Clays and Super Sporting — and there was no shortage of busted targets, friendly competition, and big smiles!

With beautiful East Texas weather, a great crowd of parents and coaches, plenty of action on the course, and some seriously great food, it was exactly what an SCTP shoot should be: competitive, fun, and filled with great people.

From the first targets in the air to the final shots of the day, athletes were challenging themselves, cheering on their teammates, and enjoying time with the Texas SCTP community. Parents and coaches packed the course right alongside them, making for an awesome atmosphere at 5H.

⚠️Team Competition Update posted to our blog ⚠️

The 2026 Hometown Challenge gives teams the chance to compete and provides donors with an entry into our multi-prize sweepstakes! The team that receives at least one match-eligible donation during September qualifies for the competition. The top 5 fundraising teams earn additional endowment awards:

1st Place: $15,000
2nd Place: $12,500
3rd Place: $10,000
4th Place: $7,500
5th Place: $5,000

Plus, 30 qualifying teams will be randomly selected to receive $1,000. All incentive awards are made as endowment donations, helping teams build their long-term financial resources.

Texas SCTP Is Part of Something Bigger

If you’re part of Texas SCTP, you’re already part of a much larger youth shooting sports community.

Our athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers are part of the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) through the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP).

The relationship is pretty simple:

SSSF — Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation
The national foundation that owns and operates both SCTP and SASP.

SCTP — Scholastic Clay Target Program
The national clay-target program offered in all 50 states, including Trap, S***t, Sporting Clays and international sh***un disciplines.

SASP — Scholastic Action Shooting Program
The national action-shooting program, also offered in all 50 states.

Texas SCTP
The Texas affiliate of SCTP.

But these programs are about much more than breaking targets.

SCTP and SASP are youth-development programs that use shooting sports to teach life lessons — teamwork, responsibility, sportsmanship, integrity, safety, leadership and much more.

That national connection also opens doors for our athletes and teams through national competition, scholarships, coach development, recognition programs, team resources and partnerships throughout the shooting sports community.

At the 2026 SSSF National Championships alone, more than 3,000 athletes representing 37 states accounted for more than 16,300 event entries.

SSSF has also awarded more than $1.34 million in scholarships to more than 1,450 student athletes since 2013, including more than $120,000 in 2026.

And this November, we have another opportunity to bring that national connection directly to our Texas SCTP community.

Last year, SSSF hosted its inaugural National SSSF Texas Banquet at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington. On Saturday, November 14, a National SSSF Banquet returns to North Texas at Circle R Ranch in Flower Mound.

This is more than a dinner. It’s an opportunity for Texas SCTP coaches, athletes, parents, volunteers, alumni and supporters to come together, support the national foundation behind SCTP and show just how strong the youth shooting sports community is here in Texas.

🎃 Put the BOO Bowl on Your Team Calendar!

We want teams from across Texas to join us on Saturday, October 31 for the BOO Bowl Halloween Shoot at the new Defender Outdoors Clay Sports Ranch/ Fort Worth Trap & S***t combined venue in Joshua!

This will be the very first Texas SCTP shoot at the new Defender/Fort Worth Trap & S***t location, and we want to make it a great one.

DATE CHANGE — NRA LEVEL 1 SH***UN COACH SCHOOL

Texas SCTP coaches, please note an important date change for one of our upcoming fall training opportunities.

The NRA Level 1 Sh***un Coach School in Waxahachie has been moved to:

October 17–18, 2026

The NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course remains scheduled for:

November 1, 2026

Both courses will be taught by Jason Anderson, SCTP Southwest Programs Manager, and are designed to help strengthen coaching, athlete development, and safe range operations.

The Level 1 Sh***un Coach School covers coaching fundamentals, sh***un safety, Trap, S***t and Sporting Clays coaching, training plans, and athlete development.

The Range Safety Officer Course focuses on RSO responsibilities, range procedures, safety briefings, emergency procedures, and safe range operations.
