Some wildlife stories last a few days.
Others last a few seasons.
Then there's Zulu.

When we first spotted this coyote on January 23, 2025, he was missing his front left foot. Between the injury, the realities of life in the South Texas brush, and the ongoing predator management necessary to support healthy populations of whitetail deer, turkey, and other wildlife, the odds were stacked against him.

But Zulu kept showing up. Through spring. Through summer. Through another hunting season. And on April 3, 2026, we saw him again.

While predator management remains an important part of responsible ranch stewardship, Zulu's continued survival is a reminder of just how adaptable and resilient wildlife can be.
He's become a familiar ghost in the brush—a sighting that always causes us to stop and take notice.

One of the things that sets South Texas apart is the land itself.

From above, the ranch looks almost endless—senderos stretching through thick brush country, pockets of cover where mature whitetails can disappear in seconds, and terrain shaped by generations of wildlife movement. That landscape is a major reason we’ve chosen to keep our hunts limited each season. Less pressure on the deer. Less traffic across the ranch. More time for hunters to slow down and actually experience the country they came to hunt. That approach has become part of the tradition here, and it’s one reason many of our hunters return year after year.

Right now on the ranch, things are about as honest as they get. The season has passed. The deer have settled back into their patterns. No antlers yet—just a herd recovering, rebuilding, and moving forward the way South Texas wildlife has for generations. It’s not the part most people see, but it’s the part that matters. This is where the next season starts.

We’ve opened our 2026–2027 hunting dates. As in years past, a number of those hunts were secured early by returning clients—folks who understand that a great hunt isn’t just about a few days in the field, but everything that leads up to it. The remaining dates are now available.

Others stay right in front of you—you just don’t notice them.

Texas Spiny Lizards blend into tree bark so well that they often go unseen, even when they’re a few feet away. It’s a good reminder: what you notice in the field depends on how you look.

The more time you spend on the land, the more it reveals.

When you see one, you’re looking at a species tied closely to the health of the land itself.

It’s a reminder that balance hasn’t been lost.
