Hunting seasons are opening up across the country, and we are looking forward to what should shape up to be a great fall season in Texas.

Each year, we are reminded of the grand scope of work that goes into preparing for the fall season; from assembling camp staff schedules to pre-season ranch work, the to-do list is long and diverse.

For the hunter, it should be no different. Whether you're going on a single hunt or looking forward to an entire season, hunting requires preparation. From the outfitter perspective, we see a wide range of "preparedness levels" in our camps, from clients unboxing guns for the first time to those who seem to never stop honing their skills.

Inspired by our observations, here's a list of some things to focus on to make your season more successful. And remember, time afield is never wasted!

Wildlife Systems, Inc. had its annual staff meeting last weekend in Kerrville, TX. We use this event to connect, learn, and share important updates for the upcoming business year.

The weekend - attended by 30 or so of our guides, cooks, and admin staff, ranch managers, and landowners - began Friday evening with a co****le tournament, a great dinner, and a little karaoke at the hotel bar.

The next morning brought a day of classroom time covering topics ranging from company policies and harvest photography to legal updates and emergency medical training, led by Greg Simons, Peter Ewald, Jennifer J Jezek, Jason Powell, Don Richardson, and Craig Bowen.

In a business that takes our staffers to all corners of the state and beyond, this yearly in-service gives us a chance to build camaraderie, celebrate the past year's successes, learn from each other's experiences, and build momentum for the coming season.
