Salt Lake Capoeira & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Afro-Brazilian capoeira classes in Salt Lake City by Mestre Jamaika from Brazil. We also offer workshops for schools and organizations.

Combining dance, martial arts, and culture, our capoeira lessons are perfect for kids and adults of all skill levels. Salt Lake Capoeira shares the vibrant Afro-Brazilian art form of capoeira through regular classes for kids and adults and community outreach. It’s led by Volta Miúda capoeira group founder, Mestre Jamaika (Mauro Romualdo), who brings his expertise from Northeastern Brazil where capoeira originated. Capoeira began when Africans who were taken to Brazil and enslaved, trained to fight while disguising it as a dance. Over the years this “dance-like fight” evolved into capoeira, and today it brings people together in positivity through movement and community. Jamaika is also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and trained with P. Gustavo Rodrigues and teaches at his professor's academy.

The official schedule for Salt Lake City Brazil Day on September 5th is here! We have an amazing lineup of live performances, music, and dance planned from morning to night.

Our November Trinidad & Tobago capoeira trip filled quickly, but we’re starting a waitlist. If 6 more travelers commit with a deposit by August 31, we’ll open additional spots. August 31 is our final deadline—we won’t be able to add anyone after that.
