Salt and Sulfur 420

Salt and Sulfur 420 A Stray Dog Has No Home More than just a race, It's a journey. You will go through Ogden and Logan canyons, Bear Lake, Afton Wy, Jackson Hole, etc.

Let's be honest, this isn't for everyone. 420 miles from Salt Lake City, ending in West Yellowstone. It is designed to be attempted as self supported, with the largest gap being 45 miles. But if this is your first attempt at a distance over 250 miles I recommend finding some crew. Most is on roads, about 50 miles are on trail. There are sections where there is no phone reception, you will have to

filter water, potentially contend with wildlife and roads with small to no shoulders. You will need to be confident in your ability to self rescue. What do you get in return? If you're looking for a buckle, medal, or a t-shirt; this isn't for you. You will get familiar with the dark corners of yourself that drive you do do stupid stuff like this. Who knows maybe you'll make friends. I should have some beers or something we can drink.

Just got done scouting the new section. You are in for a treat 😁

They say the views at Salt & Sulfur are unreal… and they are. BUT let’s not forget nature isn’t just pretty, it’s powerful.

Between a recent bear attack in Yellowstone and hearing about PAM the brain eating amoeba found in water in both Yellowstone and Tetons (cool cool cool), it’s a good reminder that this race isn’t just a walk in the park.

Come for the beauty, stay for the challenge, but respect the terrain, prepare well, and take it seriously!

We want everyone to soak in the experience and make it back safely (with all their good stories….not survival stories).

Kate Downs

1. Who are you? A jack of all trades
2. What got you into running? The Marines
3. What keeps you going? I'm no quitter
4. In regards to this run, what are you looking to achieve (if you want to elaborate)? To see if I can
5. What are your plans if you succeed? Recover for a few days, prolly swear to myself I'll never run an ultra again until I find another race to do.
6. What are your plans if you fail? Recover for a few days, then sign up again.

Editors Note: Kate was early to throw her hat in the ring. I'm glad we got her bio. She's equal parts curiosity and inevitability, the kind of mindset that accidentally signs up for another ultra.
