Gender equality means we all take responsibility for our decisions in child rearing. Men can have vasectomies which is a simple procedure that is much more safe and less invasive than many procedures women go through. It is also covered by most insurances and readily available and accessible by men.

Not only do I believe in women’s reproductive rights and the power to choose, I also believe in our s*xual freedom. Women should be able to enjoy s*x in a pleasurable way. And that means birth control.

While it wasn’t my partner’s favorite day, it was a big day for me.

41! Here I come. Yesterday was my birthday and it was a gorgeous fall day where the trees were so bright it was hard to hike without stopping and taking it in every step.

I was also surprised by my sweet friend of a celebration on the trail. ❤️

Earlier in the month Doug got us tickets to go see Jim Gaffigan in Vail and spend the weekend up there as the leaves were peaking there. And I’m fortunate to know I’ll get one more celebration when the girls come home and we get to celebrate as a family.

I’ve spent my birthday ‘season’ as Doug calls it doing the things I love, teaching/doing yoga, being outside, laughing, and gathering with friends and family. It’s quiet and content.

It can also be hard as birthdays can also be a spotlight on who or what is not there as life goes on. And it’s just part of it.

I bought this card a few years ago in Sedona. It feels so spot on to my personality, approach, and struggles in this world.

This year I wish for more loving my own strengths and the letting go of messages that hold me back. As the card says, I give myself permission to let the magician in me work miracles. And I wish that for everyone else as well!

Fall, Birthday, and Retreat Season -

Happy Fall, dear friends! As the air turns crisp and the leaves start their colorful confetti dance, I find myself basking in the cozy charm of this season. There’s something wonderfully spiritual about wrapping up in layers, sipping warm drinks, and giving ourselves permission to slow down—like...

My oldest turned 12! Basically 13 years of motherhood. I’m now that Mom who says that I only have so much time left and nostalgia sets in. I also was reflecting that as the oldest she and I are doing her life together- everything she experiences for the first time, I experience as a mother for the first time.

My daughter is, as many people told me when I was a new mother, is my greatest teacher and reason for trying to be the best person I can be. Sometimes I royally mess up.

I also remember someone saying that motherhood is the continual letting go… everyday you let go a little bit more so they can try life out on their own and when they make mistakes, get hurt, or have a win you are hopefully the safe support that can come back to.

I also believe motherhood is about deep self compassion. While I hold back on giving all the answers and hurting when they hurt, I have to have a place to go so I don’t project it. It’s super hard!

Fortunately my partner is an amazing bonus Dad and gives me a safe place to land. And also puts effort into making their childhood special in a pretty ordinary life. Like moving the tent from the pouring rain to the garage and decorating it with lights so her slumber party of friends having their own space could work out.
