First—take a deep breath. Coaches aren’t just looking for the best player on day one. They’re looking for potential, effort, and attitude. Here are some tips to help you stand out 👇
🥎 Hustle matters
Run on and off the field, back up every play, and move with purpose. Coaches notice effort immediately.
🗣️ Be coachable
Listen, make eye contact, and try to apply feedback right away. You don’t have to be perfect—just willing to learn.
🤝 Be a great teammate
Cheer for others, pick teammates up after mistakes, and show positive body language. Coaches want players who build team culture.
💪 Fundamentals first
Strong throwing mechanics, solid catching, good footwork, and consistent effort matter more than flashy plays.
🧠 Mental toughness
Mistakes WILL happen. How you respond is huge. Shake it off, stay confident, and move on to the next play.
⚾ Know the basics
Understand positions, communicate (“ball!”, “cut!”, “mine!”), and show softball IQ.

Energy, passion, and heart go a long way. Let them see you care.
