SKILLS REFRESHER/PLAY DAY!

Aquatrek will host a day at the WVA training center, outdoor pool on Saturday, Sept. 19 from noon to 4pm. This is for divers to practice skills, get back in the water, and have some quality bubble time before the end of summer.

There will be a $10 per person fee, and we will have a gear wash station set up for use before you go in. Everyone's gear will go through this process. This will help prevent any algae that may have followed you home from the quarry or river from getting a toe hold in the pool.

Aquatrek staff will be on hand to supervise and assist. If you have questions, contact Aquatrek. It would be nice to have an idea of how many we should expect.

My good buddy and our instructor Charlie Eisele sent me a message - he's looking for anyone interested in a short notice trip to the Morehead area this coming week. Olympus Diving on Sunday (7/26) - half day shallow dive, 2 pm. Or full day trips on Monday and Tuesday (7/27 and 28). If you are interested, he has a page on here. Check the requirements for the trips and make sure you meet them. Charlie is a great dive buddy and Morehead is fabulous!

Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls! Children of all ages! It is my honor to announce to the world that MEG SWECKER has just completed her 1000th OPEN WATER SCUBA DIVE in the beautiful waters of Bonaire. She was accompanied by Joel Kanasky, the unofficial "mayor" of Bonaire, and her husband Chuck Swecker on this momentous dive. The name of the site shall remain a secret, as it doesn't even exist on most of the dive maps. (If you really want to know you will have to come on the next trip with us!)

Of interest, Meg has written documentation on every single one of her dives. They read like a travel log - very interesting and descriptive. Especially when a diver does something not so smart - they get the DAD award (Dumb A** Diver.) You don't want to make Meg's log with that.

During out stay with Joel and Ruth, we had the run of the house, the island, and the ocean. At their home we enjoyed the company of LT (the Dalmation), Rescue (a mixed dog), and "Pretty Bird" - the parrot who woke us every morning with her rendition of The Marine Corps Hymn and sounds of sonar. It didn't matter whether the meal was made here, or if we went out, we felt like VIPS and all the food was delicious! When Joel and Ruth walk in a place, Tony Soprano would be jealous!

The last couple days have started with sausage gravy and biscuits - a traditional firehouse meal -and it brought back many memories for us all, as well as introducing Meg to a new dish!

Thank you Joel and Ruth for hosting us for this special dive! Thank you Danny Kane and Allen Camden for training her in 2000. Thanks to Daryl Bower and Rick Wolfe for starting the three of us (Meg, Marvin, and Chuck) on our professional journeys. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! HAPPY 250 YEARS TO THE USA!! I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend. Be careful around fireworks and on the road.

We have a few days left before we finalize the Georgia Aquarium trip.. I have one spot left for Sunday morning July 26, and 3 for that afternoon to dive the main aquarium at the GA. Two nights in a fancy hotel, free admission on Saturday and the dive and admission on Sunday. $718 per diver, double occ., $275 for a non-diver. One of the coolest, easiest dives ever! Equipment is provided by the Aquarium except your own mask. Guaranteed whale shark sighting!

It's time to start thinking about the fall trips.

So let's go to....
COZUMEL!! Big surprise, huh? But this different from our trips in the past. Check it out.

November 14 - 21,2026. SECRETS (adults only) section of Sunscape Resort, Cozumel. Farther south, but close to all the southern dive sites. Full access to 9 restaurants, 5 pools, coffee shops. Two boat dives per day through Dive House. Looong white sand beach front, great views from rooms, which are fabulous! Mini-bar refilled every night (no charge). Truly all inclusive. Additionally, there are a couple guys who will come to the boat when we get back from diving and they roll your gear up and take it to the dive shop area, rinse it, hang it, and then have it assembled in your spot the next morning at no cost. (We tipped them at the end of the week.) About $1800 for a diver, $1200 for non-diver. This is for pool view rooms (not your ordinary hotel pools) - ocean view is about $70 more for each. $300 deposit anytime. Final payment Sept. 5. LET'S GO!
