June 18th — WEST COAST STRENGTH DAY.
Eight years ago today, we opened the first West Coast Strength.
But that’s not where the story started.
West Coast Strength really began in a 500-square-foot gym inside an old 1950s gas station. From 2013 to 2018, that little spot on Main Street was where the magic happened. Training sessions from morning to night, a busted mini split trying its best to heat and cool the place, and one little Bluetooth speaker that got used until it finally gave up.
I saved every penny I could and borrowed every penny I couldn’t to open that first gym.
The truth is, I had no idea how to run one.
That first year almost broke me. I went from a small personal training studio to losing $30,000 a month while watching the bank account slowly dry up.
At the time, it felt like the end of the world.
Looking back, it really wasn’t that bad. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.
We learned and we adapted.
We survived.
More importantly, we figured out that gyms aren’t really about equipment or square footage. They’re about people. Community. Members. Staff. The relationships that make people want to come back every day.
From there, we did something a little crazy.
We opened FIVE gyms in 22 months.
Then came a year of stabilizing, standardizing, and building a stronger foundation before opening Gym #7.
Looking through these photos, it’s hard to believe where this thing started.
An old gas station, a lot of blind optimism, and a willingness to figure it out as we went. Eight years later, we’re seven gyms in and just getting started.
To every member, employee, coach, friend, family member, and supporter who’s been part of this journey, thank you.
We’re proud of what we’ve built, grateful for the people who’ve built it with us, and excited for what’s next.
Happy West Coast Strength Day 💪
