If you've ever wondered how wood sport/dance floor systems are tested, this video offers some insight into how test points are selected during laboratory testing. We include several different structural conditions in an attempt to capture the full range of performance offered by the system. Our selection process is different during field testing where exact structure locations are unknown.

One of the things you probably don't know about ASET is that Paul Elliott manages approximately 100 forest/timber acres on his farm. It provides a unique understanding of how value added sports/dance floors help not only athletes and performers but also a much larger economy, and how many lives and livelihoods the industry supports.

Water damage is a fact of life for hardwood sport/performance surfaces. Remediation efforts need to be based on data and knowledge of the specific system or the results can be significant wasted funds and poor results. ASET offers 3rd Party water damage assessments that document where moisture is within the system, and provide general recommendations work and extent of the required remediation process. This video is about 8 minutes and it introduces a 'Water Damage Restoration Guide' that we have made freely available to the industry. The guide provides information to help insurance adjusters, contractors, and owners understand the key steps in the restoration process. Contact us for more information or to request your 3rd-party water damage assessment. www.asetservices.com.

We have a new video up that discusses playground surface safety. The video runs about 9 minutes and discusses:
- Standards for playground surfaces
- When these standards apply tot he surface (hint for their entire lifespan)
- Some common terminology and brief descriptions of some of the tests
As always, we hope video presents meaningful and valuable information regarding sport/play surface testing.
Contact us to discuss your project. We will develop a proposal and quote based on your unique situation.

Is the playground at your school or park safe?

Does the surface meet required head injury protection requirements?

Do you know that maximum allowable impact force limits apply throughout the entire life of the surface?

Do you know that ensuring that the surface meets ASTM F1292 is often considered the legal standard of care? Meaning that if an injury does occur and the surface is found to be non-compliant your organization is very likely to be found liable for the injury?

Contact us to schedule your playground safety surface testing this summer and help to peace of mind to your organization and to the parents of the children using your space.

We were honored to be asked to perform ANSI E1.26 testing on a performance venue at Yale University. The surface was evaluated for Force Reduction, Vertical Deformation, and Area Deflection. The ANSI E1.26 standard is widely used within performance and practice venues and was developed by PLASA. It contains test methods and recommendations for key performance properties. Contact us if you have questions about the performance of your dance/performance surfacing.

As the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournament continues, remember that in addition to safety, 'playability' is a key property to a basketball court. One of the key tests with this regard is the vertical ball rebound. The photo below shows Vertical Ball Rebound Testing being performed at testing per ASTM F2117 and EN 12235 being performed on an NCAA court at the University of Cincinnati. , ,

You may have seen that the Big 12 conference used a glass LED floor for the early rounds of their conference tournament. You may also have seen that they replaced it with a tradition wood for the final 2 rounds. It was reported that this was done due to the slipperiness of the LED court. There are numerous mechanisms for friction (static, skid, rotational, etc) and surfaces can have high friction for some of these mechanisms and low friction for others. The LED court has likely had multiple friction tests performed, it is just that they failed to fully replicate the player's movements and the environmental conditions present at the facility. Regardless, it the LED court clearly shows that there is vast room for the innovation of court surfaces. , ,

The technology wasnt perfect and it's back to hardwood.
