Quinton Sportsmens Club- High Power / Black Powder Steel Target Match

Quinton Sportsmens Club- High Power / Black Powder Steel Target Match Target Shooting of many disciplines.

05/14/2026

Time for the match reminder. This weekend is the Black Powder and Lever Action rifle match.
We have 2 different courses of fire depending on the rifle you bring.
A short course consisting of
Chickens and pigs at 50.
Turkeys at 75.
Rams at 100.
This course is for pistol caliber, 22 rimfire rifles or roundball black powder rifles.
No set time limit, we know roundball guns take longer to load. As long as it is a reasonable time, no need to rush.
The long course, which is for rifle caliber lever actions and big bore muskets consists of -
Chickens at 50.
Pigs at 100.
Turkeys at 150.
Rams at 200.
These are full black powder silhouette targets. Pretty much a life size target.
Again no set time limit. Muskets take longer to load. Just be reasonable.
Setup starts at 7:30 am. Practice 8:00 am until 9:00 am.
We reset the targets, have the safety / shooters meeting and then we get down to business.
$10 entry for members, $15 for non members.
Come on out and shoot some old style rifles and have some fun.

April match results.

Good morning,
We got this match in, but not without some struggles. The match started with grey overcast, cold and a little uncomfortable.
It degraded into falling mist, then rain, powerful wind gusts. Not exactly ideal shooting conditions.
Made for some miserable resetting of targets also.
Decent scores, a low turnout. Understandable due to the conditions.
Hopefully next month has some nice weather. Next match is the Black Powder / lever action match.
Lever guns can use SMOKELESS Powder with lead bullets. Bring out your Cowboy Guns or make some stinky smoke.
See you next month.

First High Power match of the year. Felt good to be out on the range making some noise.
A little cool, a little breeze and a good match overall.
Decent scores, some shooters showed some rust, myself included. Most of the new targets for the bench shooters did not show up. Thank the U.S. Postal service for that issue.
But a few showed up and Chet played crash test dummy and tried them out. They should provide a little more of a challenge for the shooters who choose to use the bench.
A good day overall.
See you next month and keep practicing.

Results from the November Match-

Good match this month but windy. At setup it was so still a candle would not have flickered.
After that the wind came up and it was wild. The weather people said there were 40 mph gusts.
Made shooting tough overall but the offhand shooters had it worse. The wind blow you around as much as the bullet.
Decent field of shooters and it was fun overall.
Next month will be high Power and then it is hibernation time.
Time to clean up guns and equipment and reload ammo for next year.
Everybody have a Happy Thanksgiving and I will see you next month God willing.
