The Portland Cascades opened with a win in their first home game at Hillsboro Ballpark stunning the OKC Spark 3-0. A sold out crowd watched as Cascade pitcher Sam Landry delivered the second only Athletes Unlimited Softball no-hitter in league history fanning repeated Spark batter while backed by an incredible effort from the Cascade defense. Kendra Falby swatted a double to center field for an RBI to get things going followed by a ground rule double by Korbe Otis to make it 2-0 in the second inning. With hustle on defense and Landry's heat from the circle, the Cascades held OKC back from attempted rallies in the next turn. And in the third inning first baseman Tori Vidales rocked a shot over the left field fence for a solo homerun, her first of the season, to make it 3-0 electrifying the crowd. The Spark dialed in with some big defensive action late in the game but were outmatched on offense by Landry's firepower which locked in the teams final push through the seventh. Holding back Spark batters a quick play at first by the Cascade secured the win, lifting the Cascade to first place in the league at 5-2. The teams will play game two tonight with the first pitch at 6pm and complete the series on Sunday with a 9:30am game time.

Kennedy baseball makes it count, their sixth trip to the finals since 2019 results in another state title after beating Crosshill Christian 13-0 in a 5-inning shutout. Brody Panuke took the hill for the Trojans and wasted no time making the turn to put Kennedy batters up at the plate. And as soon as it started the Trojans quickly got the knocks putting runs on the board. Ahead 3-0 by the start of the second inning both offense and defense were clearly locked in for the Trojans, something Panuke had forecast and commented on after the game. "This was our last time playing together, as seniors, and our plan was to just out and most of all have fun. We've played together since kindergarten and we said let's go out a nd do it for each other, for our family, one last time to give it our all."
And when senior Henry Beyer popped an RBI double late in the inning to make it 4-0 it was clear the Trojans team was doing just that. "After we got out in the first I wasnt sure," Beyer remarked later, "But once we got going I was like 'Oh, this is gonna be good." he said.
And he was right. Big hits from nearly everyone in rotation combined with unfortunate Crosshill errors building momentum for Kennedy as the inning ticked by. Putting runners on with short grounders and sprinting ahead on the steal Kennedys aggressive baserunning proved too much for the Eagle fielders. And well placed drops in the outfield advanced runners home adding up run-by-run to a 7-0 lead by the bottom of the fourth. With no hesitation Kennedy continued to deliver on defense as well, Panuke earning strike-outs, and hustle plays on base to cut down runners. Energized by the effort and control of the challenge Trojan batters stayed focused and kept the steady flow of knocks coming from the bats. A two-RBI double and an RBI single soon made it 10-0, and two more runs on a combined error from a base it made added to a 13-0 margin by the top of the fifth. Panuke would wave off the first two by strike out, and a quick toss at first for out number three capped the day by run rule handing Kennedy the state title.
"I really didnt expect to ten-run them," Beyer added after the game, " We knew they were a good team because of all the teams they've beaten, they looked really good. But this feels amazing, we finally got the gold."
Afterwards it was head coach Kevin Moffat who talked about his feeling on winning another title. "I'm really happy for them," he said, "They've worked really hard and some of them have come such a long way in baseball. We've had some really good practices and so I think I had a feeling they might come out and play this way today." he added. " It's not so much that we won, I mean it's fun, it's great, but it just so good because all of these kids are such good people. They're just really good humans, so great to deal with and coach. You can tell they're gonna go on to do great things."

With a growing roster now including some Oregon State Beavers the MarrionBerries continue to clock the wins against league rivals. Finishing a three game series in a 3-0 sweep with the Bend Elks Berries fans enjoyed a rally of big hits and more thrilling defense in last nights battle. A three run homer in the first by Martin Serrano pulled the crew up from a 0-1 debt to a 3-1 lead, and Kyson Barney followed with a three-run dinger in the 2nd to bring the tab to 6-2. Pitching has also held strong for the Berries with Nate Schikore tossing tossing 34 strikes in his starting stretch and David Roberts closing with 24 strikes in the finish. Special events during mid-inning breaks remain a fan favorite as well with trike races and kids games that are great fun. The Berries are on the road to Yakima this weekend but return on Tuesday for a single night non-leaguer. They'll host Ridgefield the weekend after in another three game run as they continue to climb the stats ladder in West Coast League action.

Marion Berries Baseball Club adds another win to the list after defending the home field against the Bend Elks in a 2-1 battle.
After an impressive Nation Anthem performance by the Queen of Peace choir and a first pitch by the Lego Night sponsor the Berries quickly took command of the action. Strikeouts from starting pitcher Taylor Brenneman and a heroic diving grab by Mathew Major locked the Elks batting order while solid contact from the Berries kept the visitors in check on offense. Taron Carlson would single in the third and dive across the plate on a double hit deep to center field by Sawyer Nelson scoring the Berries first run. The Elks tied in the fourth after loading the bases and pushing one through on a grounder, but an amazing throw from centerfield to home would make the turn leaving three runners on to stop the rally. Evan Burn would wear a pitch to 1st in the fifth followed by a walk by Nelson to raise the pressure and bring a pitching change for the visitors late in the inning. But an error on a wild pitch opened the door for another run by the Berries on a sprint home from 3rd to make it 2-1. Several batters would take bases during the next few turns being hit with pitches and taking walks as the Elks struggled on the mound forcing another switch. The Berries settled in and held the lid down on defense exploring some pitching options of their own including a visit to the hill by first baseman Jake Dodge. Dodge would toss nine strikes on his turn and add a strikeout to the stats as the Berries denied an Elks push to tie. Holding back batters the outfield snapped up the challengers final efforts to end the night 2-1, improving the overall record to 4-1 and 2-1 in conference play. The duo are back again tonight for game three of the series with the first pitch at 6:35pm.

Kennedy baseball returns again to the state finals after outlasting Monroe in yesterdays game for the 14-5 win.
An early run matched by the Dragons brought out Kennedys determination as the team dug in at the plate and tied it up 2-2 by the 2nd inning. But after the threat of a Dragon rally faded under Kennedys defensive strength in the third the Trojan offense brought out a surge of power to make a run. Hard grounders and dropping balls in the gaps Kennedy clicked the RBI's pushing ahead to a 7-2 lead to end the 3rd with an electrified rally. Monroe pushed back, adding three to their tab and bringing back a sense of a urgency by the bottom of the 4th. But Kennedy was unfazed by the bump. A three run double and a series of 2 RBI line drives rocketed the Trojans to a 13-5 edge in the 5th and a 14-5 gap by the 6th. Powered by the offenses momentum Kennedys defense locked down on Monroes next effort with strike outs and smart plays by the infield holding the visitors back over the next turn. Unable to find traction the Dragons stalled at the plate and Kennedy worked through the motions to hold on for the finish in 7 and punch their ticket on a final strike out to win the game. The Trojans will pair with Crosshill Christian this Saturday for the big prize over at RotoRooter park in Keizer. Game time is scheduled for 4pm.

Sawyer Nelson and Mathew Major would each take bases with Nelson passing home on a throwing error by the Lefties.
