James David Wilson was arrested April 1 in connection with a crash that killed a runner during the Florida Half Marathon on February 8, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Albert Jernigan “A.J.” Swann, 74, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, was running his 31st half marathon when police said a blue Chevrolet SUV crossed onto the course and struck him just after mile 1 of the race, near the intersection of Hibiscus Blvd. and S. Harbor City Blvd in Melbourne. He was taken to the hospital and died of his injuries on February 16.

A DUI investigation was conducted at the scene, and Wilson, who was driving the vehicle, showed “indicators of impairment,” Sgt. Ben Slover, traffic unit sergeant and public information officer with the Melbourne Police Department, told Runner’s World.
