Becca not only takes her training very seriously, but also goes above and beyond by trying to help her classmates as well!

How can you leverage dopamine to work for you? We know that dopamine is produced through reward and the anticipation of receiving the reward. One way we utilize dopamine is through trickery.

When our instructor begins a drill they may say “Ready, set, Goose!” Some students will be still as a rock which a few will be several steps before they realized the instructor did not say “Go.”

Now, those who were still as a rock will feel proud that they weren’t tricked by the instructor and may be rewarded with praise or high fives. Dopamine is released.

Then, those who were tricked will not want to get tricked again and also want to be praised, so we say “I’m very tricky! Don’t let me trick you!”

Now, the anticipation of not being tricked and praised will trigger the production of dopamine. They’re also working on their auditory processing. BONUS!

Adult often sees pre-teens and teens as being 🥱lazy or unmotivated. As coaches, mentors, and parents we have to look deeper.

Physically, kids in this group are growing at a tremendous rate with growth spurts and hours on end of sitting and learning in school. All of their body’s energy ⚡️is being used to help them grow.

Even further, Socially kids in this group care a lot about their peers’ opinions and make decisions based on emotion. 🥰

They tend to avoid the spotlight because they don’t want to fail 😞or be seen as “uncool” 😨in front of their peers. They also don’t want to bring unwanted attention and thus do not want too much praise.

Due to all of this, they become “stuck” and adults see this inaction as being lazy.

In our effort to guide them, we have to teach them that failure is a part of success. The airplane ✈️ was not invented in one day. The computer 💻was not invented in one day. No one learns how to backflip on the first try. 🤸‍♂️

They need their support systems through their parents and mentors, and they need opportunities to win with humility and lose with grace.

Hey Families,

Have PATIENCE and “catch yourself” when you’re about to explode. Identify your triggers and be mindful when correcting bad behaviors. 👀

Responding in the heat of the moment can cause regression in your child’s behavior.
Take a few seconds before responding. Have a plan. 🧠

Know how you will respond when your child has poor behavior.
Remember, children feed off of our energy so staying calm will also help them stay calm.🙂
