Happy to be on the medical team again this year and am looking forward to all the fantastic dives and statics
We are thrilled to have Janine Cianciolo as a part of our Medical Team for the UNU Double K Freediving Challenge!
Janine is excited to be part of the UNU Medical Team again this year. She previously participated in the UNU competition as an athlete and safety diver; she has been a member of the US Freediving Team - Master’s Division in ‘23, ‘24 and ‘25.
Janine is a mostly retired wildlife emergency veterinarian and managed human health emergencies and concerns for multiple field prejects. She currently teaches courses for Diver’s Alert Network (DAN), Red Cross, Emergency First Responder. She is a Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and is a Freediving Emergency Medical Respinder.
She teaches Freediving (level 1&2), Mermaiding and Scuba Diving in association with Deep Awareness Diving and Florida Underwater Sports. Janine is certified in both Blue Health (Berner, Nichols system) and Trauma Informed Freediving (Hick’s method) techniques and offers specific freediving courses for trauma survivors.
Janine is very active in environmental projects and uses freediving to participate on several research teams. Two of her favorite involve assessing the health and population of freshwater turtles in the Florida Springs with the Turtle Survival Alliance - NA Freshwater Turtle Research Gruop and with the Santa Fe River Turtle Research Team ( all research conducted with appropriate FWC and federal permits)
