Growing up doing judo, the dominant countries were obvious. Japan. France. South Korea.

But those countries have massive populations to draw from.

So I wanted to know: who’s the most efficient with the population they have?

I took total Judo World Championship medals for every country and divided by population size. Japan drops to 10th. Kosovo, a country about the size of Phoenix, cracks the top five.

Larger populations produce more elite athletes. That’s just math.

But which countries squeeze the most out of what they have.
