Good day to all students, friends, and supporters of Martial Virtues Academy of Soo Bahk Do at Linwood. I hope this finds you well.
This week, our Tuesday classes will be special.
We will be sending our very own Kyo Sa Nim Matthew Maxam off to test for his 4th degree midnight blue (black) belt / master practitioner level testing. This test is quite unique as an 8-day event packed with in depth training, community building, and intensive learning. This year, the test (Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa) will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma and goes Friday, November 4th thru Friday November 11th.
Most days begin on the training floor around 6:30am and last well past 10pm.
Kyo Sa Maxam is our first 'student' member from MVA to reach this level of being a candidate and to take on this challenge.
All past and present members are invited to stop down by Linwood on Tuesday, November 1st anytime between 6pm-8:30 pm to throw a kind word of support to Kyo Sa Maxam and sign one of the sheets that we will be sending with him to remind him of his support back home. We will be in the gym until 7:15, then in the dance room until 8:30.
I am deeply proud of Kyo Sa Maxam and his continued development in the Moo Duk Kwan and his passion to push his limits, and the limits of our students at MVA SBD.
Please join us if you can, or feel free to send me a brief note for Kyo Sa Maxam and I will be sure to include it.
As a note, regular classes will be in session during this time, so please feel free to poke your head in and Kyo Sa Maxam and I will be happy to stop over for a 'hello!'.
Finally, it is a distinct honor for me as I will get to share my Chil Dan (7th degree) testing experience with Kyo Sa Maxam. I have never had a student test alongside me (and only one of my students in all my time in Soo Bahk Do has ever witnessed me testing for rank advancement). I am humbled and overjoyed to share Ko Dan Ja testing - (as one of my most appreciated training experiences after having attended it 3 other times as a candidate and twice as a visitor) - with Kyo Sa Maxam.
