CONGRATULATIONS!

Barbadian Ronald “Suki” King has emerged at the top of the World Checkers and Draughts World Cup standings.

In the ratings, King stands at the top of the stalk from a field of 42 international players.

As a result, King is the automatic World Checkers Draughts Federation nominee for Barbados to participate in the World Qualifier to be held in Turkey in May this year.

Fellow Barbadian Jack Francis is rated at number three.

The Special Needs Division of The Michael Barker GAYP National Draughts Tournament was held recently in the Auditorium of The Ann Gill Memorial Church. 24 young people participated in the Division. These young people who live with conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, Dyslexia, Down’s Syndrome and Learning Disabilities participated with great enthusiasm. At the end Zachary Gibson prevailed to win the male section, 2nd was Nathan Lewis and 3rd Rajan King. Sheena Jordan who has Spina Bifida and uses a wheelchair won the Female section, 2nd was Aaliyah Straughan and 3rd Whitney Rock. There was also a section for the volunteers which was won by Sheldyne Jordan.

In the Youth Section of the Competition held at The Caribbean Mind Institute Ximena King (granddaughter of Suki King) tied with DaWayne Boyce for joint first place. In 3rd Place was Tuari Small. In the Infants Section 6 year old Daniel Best pushed away all opponents to win the Division. In 2nd Place was Rose Beckles and 3rd was Liam Archer. Mr Ronald Suki King,BSS and Mr. Michael Cheeseman of The BDA were the referees. The Nationals were sponsored by Infiniti Hotel, Premier Wholesale and The Barbados Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union Ltd.
