Advice from an indigenous CEO/small business owner:

Does a degree/formal education help? Exponentially. Is it doable without it? That depends on you. Do I recommend it? Hell nah. Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY.

When people ask I always say, I can’t tell you what you should do if you want to start your business but I can most definitely tell you what not to do😅😮‍💨✨🤎

Things I’ll never preach as your fitness coach, or simply as a professional in the fitness industry who gives a f**k about people, ethics, scope of practice, and plain ole misinformation:

-Working out to burn calories
-Treating the number on the scale like a target
-Earning your sweet treats
-Exercising because you overate
-Skipping the weights because you don’t want to look like a man
-Cardio for fat loss
-Counting calories
-Dieting, of any kind
-Meal plans from anyone but a Registered Dietitian
-“We have the same 24 hours in a day” trope
-Supplements and fat loss aids before long-term habit change (and I do mean LONG term)
-Aesthetics before health

This isn’t me sh****ng on anyone who currently does these things. This is me sh****ng on your coaches and trainers who do.

Do better. These are people, not dollar signs.

The amount of y’all posting your fitness journeys, accomplishments, hard days, rest days, off days, nutrition milestones, sleep and hydration achievements, movement/mobility improvements, improved health markers/blood work, and overall motivation to start where you are, be gracious and patient with yourself, and to just keep pushing forward lately has been warming my heart.

KEEP DOIN’ THAT. MORE of that🙌🏽👏🏽

Take care of yourself from the ground up, inside and out, and do it because you want to build true, long-term results that will carry to the next generation. Everything else will fall into place. That’s the beautiful thing about grinding in the gym/at home. She’s gonna push ya. You cannot be afraid to push back.

Keep it up, y’all. I’m inspired and humbled by the example you’re all setting😮‍💨🙌🏽🌱📈

I’ve barely driven my car since putting this on because 1) I’m actually shy af and this feels like a huge spotlight on me and 2) it did not turn out well (and I’m a perfectionist) but something is better than nothing when no one knows your name yet, right?

As a fully self-funded small business, starting small never stopped me. Until then, I am manifesting, grinding and trusting the process. Soon enough this will be upgraded to my professional standards. Stay tuned🙌🏽✨📈🌱

One thing I don’t do is fall and stay down. And I carry that so well that I’ve actually grown to love failure.

You might’ve heard me say that failure is data, which I truly do believe, but it’s actually so much more than that.

Failure is an opportunity to:
-fine tune your system
-modify your effort
-hone your intention
-adjust your perspective

While I’m competitive and don’t like losing, I value failure. I have learned so much more from my (many) failures than I have from any win.
