St. Marys City Singles Bowling Tournament begins this weekend

St. Marys – The St. Marys City Singles Bowling Tournament returns this weekend after a year hiatus due to COVID-19 when qualifying gets underway at Olympic Lanes.

The tournament was last held at the CMF Club in January of 2020. No tournament was held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social gathering guidelines. That means that Rick Beimel, who defeated Rich Quiggle 872-825 in 2020, is the defending champion. That win was Beimel’s sixth title in tournament history. Ironically, Quiggle, who has never won the tournament, has now finished second six times, as well.

Qualifying begins this weekend at Olympic Lanes, with action on Saturday, January 8, at 3:00 pm and another shift on Sunday, January 9, at 12:00 pm. A second round of qualifying will follow on January 15 and 16 at the same times and venue.

The format this year will be as follows: an 8-game qualifying score to determine the top 32 seeds to be set to an NCAA head-to-head bracket format. During the head-to-head format of the tournament, each bowler will bowl 4 games, with the higher total score advancing to the next round.

The winner this year will receive a $600 cash prize and $400 in merchandise, for a total prize of $1000.

Sponsors for this years tournament are Beimel Transportation, The
CMF, The PFL and Kanawha Scales and Systems.

To participate in this years tournament, please contact tournament director Kenny Salter at 814-594-1838.
