Northwest Indiana Fencing Club NIFC is located inside the Great Lakes Orthopedic building in ST JOHN, IN. Open Fencing Mon, Wed & Fri 6:30-8:30pm We require members to be USFA members.

NIFC is an ALL VOLUNTEER club to keep dues as low as possible. Current dues are $150 per year, from August 1 through July 31. Membership for ages 10 to 75+. NIFC has a full service armory for equipment repairs and minor repairs are free to members, other repairs may include a fee only for the price of parts. NIFC offers parts, equipment and uniform sales. Lessons in all 3 weapons are available. Op

en strip nights are Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays 6:00-8:30pm. Minimum age for lessons is 10, but we prefer 12 years an older. Because we are all volunteer we do not provide some services that for-profit clubs provide such as youth fencing below age 10. Tuesdays are reserved for invitation only practices, events or lessons and are NOT open to the public. Thursdays are reserved for group classes. Please contact us for our class schedule and available openings. NIFC is typically closed Labor Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Christmas & New Years. We are open most other holidays, see our website for specific details.

Interested in Fencing? Teen through Adults are encouraged to sign up for our upcoming FOIL Fencing lessons. FOIL CLASS - 6 Week (6 Session) Class, Starts June 23rd.
Unlike most sports, a high percentage of teenage competitors (approx 33%) go on to compete in college.
NIFC beginners' classes teach the basics of fencing Olympic Style Foil, including rules and etiquette, footwork, attack, defense, use of electric equipment, strategy & tactics, how to referee, safety, and participation in competitions.
The class will run for 6 consecutive Tuesdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm and will be taught by club vice-president Kendra McPheeters and assisted by senior club members & Breia Levant, a collegiate fencer who competes for Marquette University.
The 2026 cost of the class is $120 (Family discounts will be available).
Suitable for ages 14 and above.
All necessary equipment will be provided.

Marian Catholic's Spartan Fencing Academy will be hosting a couple fencing camps in July for beginner fencers. NIFC and Marian Catholic, in Chicago Heights, share many members so we are happy to spread the word about their camps.

There are still plenty of spots available in the two fencing camps at Marian Catholic HS this summer: Fundamentals - July 6-9; Bouting - July 13-16. Each camp runs from 8:30am to 10am and costs $75. We just started week #2 of our Fencing Camp with Olympian Marek Stepien. He is a National Champion, a World Cup Medalist, the former head coach at Cambridge University in England, former Epee Coach at Notre Dame, which is the worlds top university fencing program. Marek is also a great friend of Northwest Indiana Fencing Club. He taught our most successful students, formed our Youth Epee program, and he is back for a few weeks! Day 2 of the Skyward Epee tournament and we had Reese win the Silver Medal in the Senior Mixed Epee, while Rob earned Silver and Jake earned Bronze. These are local kids. Cedar Lake, Crown Point and Valparaiso. Reese is a national competitor and competes all around the country, at 16 years old he was competing against collegiate and adult fencers. Rob & Jake are both new to the sport and this Skyward tournament is their first tournament outside of our club. Bob Butta, one of our adult members, also competed but did not earn a medal.

Congrats to Rob, who went to his first USA Fencing tournament outside of our club today and came home with a Bronze Medal. Rob, from Crown Point, competed in the Y14 Epee event at Skyward Fencing Club in Barrington. He came out of pools in first place going into the Direct Elimination round but was knocked out in the Semi-Final round.
