Thinking about starting a journey of your own?
Ever thought about owning a gun store?
We are seriously considering selling Iron Hill Armory and for a fraction of its appraised value.
We have a tentative plan for IHA after the retail store closes, but before we head down that road, I’d really like to see if there is someone interested in taking the reins and carrying on what we’ve built.
For someone who has ever considered getting into this industry, this could be an opportunity to step into an established operation without having to build everything from the ground up.
Here’s a little of what Iron Hill Armory currently looks like:
* Approximately $80,000–$85,000 in remaining inventory, with about a week left before we close the retail shop.
* No real estate involved. We lease the building, which keeps the purchase considerably simpler.
* A brand-new, ground-up custom website built by an industry-leading fi****ms digital advertising company. For those unfamiliar with the cost of something like this, a professional website typically is a $5,000–$10,000 investment by itself.
* Our established phone number generates approximately 25% of our retail sales, which shows the value of the customer base and name recognition that have been built over the years.
* Approximately 10% annual growth per year over the last three years.
* Roughly $11,000 in fixtures, displays, equipment, and tools based on used-market value.
The equipment and fixtures include display cabinets, slatwall, three matching freestanding slatwall displays, a large gondola display, several gridwall displays, a large L-shaped workbench, hand tools, benchtop mill, fiber laser, large cabinet CO₂ laser, small TIG welder, multiple computers, Cerberus suppressor system for digital forms and EFTs, remaining inventory, and plenty more that I’m probably forgetting.
There are also multiple established revenue streams beyond normal retail sales, including gunsmithing and fabrication, firearm and stock laser engraving, cleaning, optic mounting, and other shop services.
The Why
I’ve heard we’re closing because of active warrants, tax evasion, failed ATF compliance inspections, poor sales, and probably a few other things I haven't heard yet. I may have even started a couple myself...it's good fun.
The real reason is considerably less exciting.
You can't trade money for time.
I’ve spent years following a dream and building Iron Hill Armory into what it is today. In my book, it has been a success. It has supported our large family for years, taught me more than I ever expected to learn, introduced me to some great people, and given me plenty of trials, tribulations, and stories along the way.
But building and running a business takes an incredible amount of time. I've missed more of my kids' lives—and my own—than I'd like to admit while chasing that dream.
At some point, you have to decide what your time is worth.
For me, it's time to take a step back.
That doesn't necessarily mean Iron Hill Armory has to end with me.
If you've ever seriously considered owning a gun store, expanding an existing fi****ms business, or taking over an established operation with the infrastructure already in place, come see me or contact me to set up a time to sit down and talk.
I’m happy to discuss the numbers, what's included, and what an acquisition could look like with a serious buyer.
Maybe my next chapter can be the beginning of yours.
