Another incredible season for sophomore Matty "The Tarantula" McDermott: He finishes the 2025-2026 season with a 44-3 record. 33 of those wins by pin. He won his second straight Suffolk County Championship and made a return to the New York State Finals and finished 2nd in New York State.

Another good year for Smithtown East at the Suffolk County Wrestling Championships. With 8 qualifiers, six of them got wins, 2 placed; Sam Reinard (4th) and Matt McDermott (1st). It marks the fourth year in a row that East has had a Suffolk County Champion. It is Matt's second Championship and third time that he has placed. He's only a sophomore. Even better, all 8 qualifiers return.

The Tarantula places 3rd at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas adding to his National runner-up finish at the NHSCA Nationals a few weeks ago.

Pretty good weekend of wrestling for the Smithtown East Bulls. These young men fought admirably all weekend, ending up with three all-county wrestlers; County Champion at 131 lbs., freshmanMatt McDermott, Runner-Up, senior, Dylan Reinard at 116 lbs. and 4th place, Senior, Xavier Pineda at 285 lbs. Senior Jack DiBenedetto battled like a warrior, with a torn labrum in his shoulder, all the way to the blood round. Smithtown East finished in 6th place overall. Matt and Dylan will represent Section XI and Smithtown East in the NYS tournament 2/28 and 3/1.

Dylan Reinard (116 lbs.) placed 6th at the prestigious Eastern States Classic. Dylan beat both the 3rd place and 4th place finishers on his run to the semi-finals where he lost to nationally ranked Dunia Sibomana from Long Beach. We had Dylan forfeit his last match because of a back strain. A lot more still to accomplish.
Freshman Matty "The Taratula" McDermott (131lbs.) wrestled a great tournament as well, amassing a 4-2 record losing in the blood round.

The wrestling season came to an end last weekend. Smithtown East finished with 4 All- County wrestlers; Dylan Reinard (4th), Matt McDermott (3rd), Jack DiBenedetto (3rd), and TJ Visciano (Champion). TJ, Matt, and Jack qualified for the State Tournament and TJ placed 7th. We finished 7th in Suffolk County. With 3 of our County place-winners returning, we look to build on this success in '24-'25.

Smithtown East had a very good County Tournament. TJ Visciano is a County Champion, Matt McDermott and Jack DiBenedetto placed 3rd and Dylan Reinard 4th. The team b placed 7th overall. Our Brethren across town had a good tournament as well placing 8th.

11 Smithtown East Wrestlers made the commitment to improve their wrestling skills at Kutztown University Wrestling Camp. They were part of a large contingent of Wrestlers from Suffolk County that attended the camp.
Andrew Arnone is missing from the team picture because he suffered an arm injury and had to head home.
