Here is a low round count reload drill I like to run, an effective way to improve speed and confidence with reloads. Practicing reloads not only helps you return to the fight quickly but also helps with your familiarity with your firearm. The recoil impulse when you go empty is very different then your usual recoil. I typically use the slide release to send the slide forward, though using the support hand to rack the slide is also acceptable, personally, the slide release allows me to reacquire my target more quickly. It is fine to glance at the magwell to confirm your seating in that magazine correctly. Some shooters prefer to keep their eyes on target while reloading which I do, while others rely on a brief visual check. As with all skills, repetition and consistency is keyyyyyyyyyyy.
