Try this today. 😍

When your loved one gets frustrated or afraid of something that is not real, Ask them to talk about it more.

Validate their feelings and let them know you understand and you are there for them and they are safe.

When you do this you will see them relax and you may learn why they are truly upset.

It may not be what they said.

Here is why I am on a mission to help dementia caregivers learn how to communicate and emotionally ground them selves during care.

I too have struggled with gaining cooperation with my residents with dementia.

I have spent over 30 years interacting with them and learning techniques and methods of communication, not to mention how to stay calm myself and not take their reactions personally.

I figure with all my experience I can teach and coach caregivers these techniques, methods and strategies, so it doesn't take them years to figure it out.

I see you…

You have been trying your best to care for your loved one with dementia so that they are fed, clean and clothed but every time you try they refuse or resist.

They may even yell at you and call you names. I get it, I’ve been there too.

Learning to care for those with dementia is a journey. It takes time. You will make mistakes, that's ok but continue to learn and grow. You are amazing!

Are you making mistakes in dementia communication that are directly effecting cooperation with your loved one?

Mistake 1: Asking complex or open ended questions like “What do you want to wear today”. This is overwhelming and creates resistance.

Instead give 2 choices, say: “Would you like to wear a t-shirt or sweatshirt today?” This preserves dignity and right to choose. It gives them a sense of autonomy and control.

Mistake 2. Talking to them from behind them or to the side of them. You will not have their attention and they wont hear or process what you are saying.

Instead: approach from the front, get down eye level with them, address them by name or title to get their attention and THEN say what you want to say. You will get a much better response and connection with them this way.

Caregivers are often told to “gently re-orient” their loved one when their timeline is off or they forget someone died, but in my experience I find using “Loving falsehoods” is 10x less traumatizing to someone with dementia.

Stay in their narrative and tell them they went to the store or had to go to work.

Then gently redirect them to a different topic.

Be one of my 15 founding members to help shape the experience around what YOU truly need.

Because when you feel supported and equipped, everyone around you benefits.

Let’s make caregiving a healthier, more hopeful path—for both of you.

🇩🇪 What’s happening in some German nursing homes may surprise you!

In 10 care homes run by Diakonissen Speyer, staff use Naomi Feil’s Validation Method to communicate with people living with dementia.

✨ Since then, residents no longer regress to being non-verbal. They remain verbal until the very end of life.

It’s no wonder many families in Germany now look for facilities where staff use Validation. Wouldn’t you?

What’s the hardest part about asking for help?

For many, it’s not the asking.

It’s the fear of what it means.

✨ Will I look weak?
✨ What if I’m a burden?
✨ What if no one shows up?
✨ What if I should be able to handle this alone?

The truth?

Asking for help is one of the most courageous things you can do.

It’s not a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of strength, trust, and self-awareness.

If you’ve been holding it all together, silently struggling...

This is your reminder:

You’re allowed to receive, too.
