Thank you LEGO House and LEGOLAND Billund for hosting my soccer ball for the past 2 years! It has been quite a journey from creation to winning the LEGO challenge to have your creation showcased at the LEGO House. Now I need to redesign it and make a new one to submit to LEGO ideas. Hopefully with the buzz of the World Cup I can make it to 10,000 supports this time around. Swipe right and read the captions to see how it all started.
To quote one of my favorite books, 2001 Space Odyssey, “Now he was master of the world, and he was not quite sure what to do next. But he would think of something,”
Photo 1: My LEGO soccer ball, back in my possession in its new home (we moved last year).
Photos 2-7: This was my first iteration of trying to make a soccer ball shape. After the World Cup in 2022, in January 2023 | immediately started to design this soccer ball.
Photos 8-9: I used AutoCAD to design the panels and add Flags to them. This would be a future design of the soccer ball.
Photo 10: This is the final product of my first version of the soccer ball. 32 panels, 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons to make the iconic soccer ball look. I submitted this design to LEGO ideas but did not get the 10,000 supports I needed.
Photo 11-12: These were my proto types in trying to replicate a FIFA World Cup Ball
Photos 13-14: This was the final design, which I ended up submitting for a LEGO ideas challenge that represents a season. My season was Summer, inspired by the Women's World Cup that was taking place. So each panel represented each country that was in the tournament.
Photo 15: In November of 2023, I asked my local bricks and minifigs store to host my ball before it was shipped to Denmark for a year.
Photo 16-18: These are the photos LEGO House took to show how my ball was displayed there.
Photo 19: In October 2024, I had the pleasure of making the trip and getting to see the ball in person. I got to meet a couple of the employees that helped with the transfer of my ball which was really cool.
Photo 20: January 2025, it is now at LEGOland Billund. They had a promo video showing all the builds and unfortunately my ball was not featured, but at the end of the video if you take a screenshot and zoom in you can see my ball in the background.
