85 years ago, on June 10th, 1935 in Akron, Ohio, after a meeting took place between two strangers who had recently met Bill W., a New York stockbroker, and Dr. Bob S., an Akron surgeon, Dr Bob had his last drink. Both men had been hopeless alcoholics. Together they took a course of action to help themselves by learning how to help others who suffered. Since then, A.A. has become truly global, and this has revealed that A.A.’s way of life can today transcend most barriers of race, creed and language. It is with heartfelt gratitude that we acknowledge the birth of a movement. Today AA claims an estimated 2.1 million members worldwide, with 1.3 million of them U.S. residents. Membership extends to over 150 nations. And it still costs nothing to join. If you need help all you need to do is ask.
