As announced earlier this spring, construction activity will begin soon on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spur jetty project.
Pedestrian access to the jetty has reopened this week following a brief closure, allowing visitors to travel onto the rocks for striper fishing or other coastal activities. Before active construction begins, a fence will be installed approximately 800 feet onto the jetty to ensure safety near the construction area. The public may continue to access the jetty up to this fence line. For your safety, please do not attempt to bypass the fencing or enter the construction zone at any time.
Construction in the water will get underway in May. After the existing jetty is reinforced, the contractor estimates that it will take roughly one month to construct each 50-foot section of the spur jetty. Expected completion is currently set for August 2027, but this timeline is subject to change.
